Rose Marie Academy participated in its first ever badminton tournament on September 13, 2014, against Global English School. In the women’s division of the competition we had two students from Senior High School, Nonye and Faiza. Nonye powered her way into the final with ease, and Faiza had to go through the runners up section to get to the final. It was a Rose Marie Academy final with Nonye winning the tournament overall and Faiza as runner up.
The men’s division was represented with four students from Senior and Junior High School: Charn, Ozan, Hocky, and F who played at their very best. All won a few matches. However, the competition for men’s section was exceptionally high with only Parent Wila managing to get into the final. Unfortunately, she was beaten by a very talented twelve year old from Global.
All players had to pay an entry fee; the money was donated to Help Live, an organization that Global English has been working with the last couple of years to help disadvantaged children in Thailand. As teachers, we are fortunate that we have the pleasure of seeing our students in a competition outside the school environment. I was honoured to be part of this.
