Typical Day in C2

Arrival and Time on the Playground

Children arrive and are greeted by their teachers. They put away personal belongings in their classrooms, and they are accompanied to the playground by their teachers for early morning play time.

Circle Time

The teacher uses this group activity to explain the day's activities, play games, have show and tell, or simply engage the children in meaningful conversation.

Work Time

The teacher uses this time to engage children in doing interesting activities and to challenge them by setting reasonable goals and helping them reach those goals as they develop habits of attention and effort.

Snack

The children are provided with a healthy snack which includes fruit, vegetables, cereals and bread. They are also taught self-care routines, table manners, and social skills.

Playground Time

After snack, a half-hour on the playground is devoted to assisting children in developing their gross motor skills by engaging in activities such as swinging, climbing, riding tricycles, and playing in the sandbox.

Quiet Time

This is a ten or fifteen-minute period, usually after outside play, in which the children are encouraged to rest by taking a nap or looking at books quietly.

Freeplay

This time is set aside for children to choose activities in one of the centers set up in the classroom. They are free to play with toys, use art and learning materials, or enjoy books either individually or within a small group.
