Rose Marie Academy’s Senior High School Science Teacher Bobby Veerathanongdech participated as the honorary translator in the STEM Career Path presentation on August 17, 2017, which was part of the National Science and Technology Fair 2017 held at IMPACT Muangthongthani.
The presentation entitled, “Never Let Your Fears Get in the Way of Your Dreams – One Man’s Journey to the Stars” was given by Dr. Albert Sacco Jr., Dean of Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Sacco, a former NASA American astronaut who flew aboard the space shuttle, “Columbia” (mission STS-73) in 1995, described his experiences during his time at NASA and explained the science of spaceflight to an audience of students, teachers, and education officials. He also shared examples and gave guidance on how to develop a mentality of confidence and empowerment, and how to learn and build strength of character for the pursuit of educational and personal enrichment.
The event was particularly meaningful to Teacher Bobby as he had met Dr. Sacco as a child. Dr. Sacco made a lasting impression on the young boy and became one of the teacher’s personal icons which contributed to his keen interest in science and aerospace.
