Graphic on biodegradability by Junior High Students

On October 7, 2011, the Junior High Science Class began an experiment to see which trash items were biodegradable. Something that is biodegradable can be broken down naturally by organisms.

The Process

The Process ... Step 1

We dug a hole 1m X 1m, 30 cm deep. It took us a few days.

We dug a hole ...

We put left-over food, foil, plastic bags, juice boxes, and plastic bottles in the hole and left it for one month.

After one month, we re-opened the hole .

From the experiment, we know there is a disposal problem with non-biodegradable items.

Conclusion

Most leftover food was decomposed except for the chicken bones. The other stuff didn’t biodegrade at all. From the result of the experiment, we now know the disposal problem with non-biodegradable items.
