Child Center students have been participating in eLearning since March 23 since the onset of COVID 19. Although there may have been some reservations about the appropriateness of this way of teaching for young children, we have been amazed at its success. The students, with the support of their parents, adapted quickly to this new world, and teachers followed the normal classroom schedules as closely as possible with necessary adaptations of teaching material, classroom organization, and teaching techniques. The learning curve has been a positive one for both teachers and students, and there has been sound academic progress.
February 28, 2020, was Planting Day in the Child Center. The children learned how to plant seeds and look after them. They chose and planted their vegetable seeds in individual pots to watch them grow in readiness to transplant them into the Child Center Organic Garden. Mung beans were also set out for germination in the classrooms. C2 and C3 ate the bean sprouts with fried noodles and mixed vegetables as a tasty snack. We named this “Beany Snakes”.
On Thursday February 27, 2020, Rose Marie Academy students staged an all
campus exhibition. The theme for this exhibition is Myths and Legends. Students
were asked to develop a personal response to this theme using a variety of
two and three dimensional materials including recyclables. Senior High students
created large scale images based on Norse Mythology for this event.
Child Center’s latest community project is Share a Shirt where we invite students to donate unwanted T-shirts. Maybe the t-shirt has shrunk in the wash or maybe the owner no longer supports Manchester United but Liverpool. Whatever the reason somebody in need will happily receive a T-shirt.
C3 students have been learning about clothes and, as both a life-skill and problem-solving task, practiced putting on a T-shirt and shorts. To make the task more challenging the t-shirts were turned inside out. The students had a lot of fun and marked another step along the road to independence.
The fruit and vegetable stall was soon sold out; Khun Jum’s shop will certainly have some new customers.
January 31 will be Fruit and Vegetable Day at the Child Center when our activities will be centered around that theme. We have invited Khun Jum, owner of OC Organic Shop located in the Nichada Club Shopping Center, to talk to our young students about growing fruit and vegetables. At 1:45 she will set up a stall at the gate to enable parents and staff to buy healthy organic fruit and vegetables. Try her produce. You won’t be disappointed!
Rose Marin Academy is offering an IELTS preparation class for students from 16 years of age. IELTS scores are recognized world-wide for entry to institutions of higher education. Rose Marie Academy will celebrate twenty-five years of educational commitment to our Thai and international communities in 2020. As part of our silver jubilee celebrations, and in appreciation for the community support we have received, we will launch the International Transition Program, specifically designed for Thai students to add an international component to their education. It will be taught in English separate from our regular Grade 1–8 programs.
This new program will begin on March 16, 2020, with the aim of preparing students to enter an international or bilingual school in the future. The fees will be affordable to more families, but the same high standards of education will be maintained.
We are offering a free trial for students from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Friday, March 13, 2020. We ask for your support in distributing the enclosed invitations to friends, neighbors or relatives. If they are interested, please ask them to contact Khun Wanchai at 02-960-3663 or email@example.com
Disney Dress–up Day
Course 1 in Child Center ended on Friday, December 20, with Disney Dress-up Day when students were invited to dress up as their favorite Disney character and bring their Disney toys to play with. Can you guess their characters from the photos?
