Reading for pleasure is what Rose Marie Academy encourages all its students to do, as reading motivates them to crave for more knowledge, think critically, share their ideas in writing as time passes. To encourage students to read in their spare time, Teacher Theresa Nall initiated the “Love of Reading Week” with the support of Scholastic Asia during the period of February 14 to 22, 2017.
These special two weeks also included a fantasy reading day on February 22 for students to associate books with a comfortable and enjoyable feeling. Students and teachers in the child center and primary school programs dressed up as their favorite book characters and played a guessing game of who they were and from which books. They also formed book buddies where older students read stories to younger ones.
Students brought magic to that day in the spirit of Steven King who once wrote “Books are a uniquely portable magic”.
